Any reason for the vertical cut sail, is it for speed? Boomless attachment point Strength? Looks? I see that there are horizontal cut sails available from Hobie, I think they are for resort boats. The reason I ask is I have a really nice 16 sail I’ve tried to sell for several months with no takers (granted the color scheme is dated…) and my buddy needs a new sail for his wave, any chance a 16 sail could be cut down to size for a recreational only wave or is he looking for either a new or nearly non existent used wave sail?

Brian,
I'll give this a shot! Vertical sails are made to align the fibers along the load path of the sail. Some cloth is better at it like radial sailcloth. Yes, you can have a sailmaker cut down the 16 sail. This path is going to be how much money is your friend willing to spend? A good option would be to put up a few "want to buy" (WTB) ads on other forums and include this one. There just might be a used but still useable sail out there for him!
Good luck, Bob
