Camping there is always good. Flush toilets, hot showers and good company on-site. Various hotels in town - 5 miles away.

All,
The 2023 National event saw a huge squall line come through and decimate the fleet. Now that I'm home and back to work, I've had a chance to download and analyze the radar data. I found in the echo returns a small F1 tornado had formed 1 mile to the SW of the Yankton beach and hit the beach area head on. The thunderstorm cells were moving at 45mph. Wind analysis showed 66+mph winds at the beach area. I promised a few sailors I would look at the data and report.
I'm wondering now if we had taken the masts down and really tied the boats down with lengthy screw anchors we would have had a different result! The little silver dog anchors saved the day for two boats (in Northern Tier soil) but here in the south you must go deeper. I can confirm in the A Cat fleet the masts come down and the boats get tied down at any hint of approaching storms. Maybe we need to think this way with our parts availability also on the rocks!
See y'all at the next regatta(s), Bob Curry

Thank you for your analysis of the weather event. Did the local weather guys provide any forecast alert?? Tornado alert?? Wonder if anyone will repair their comp-tip with carbon fiber cloth and epoxy?? I have saved a comptip that had the top casting ripped off. Easy repair and has held up for 2 years. Are you writing an article modifying H14 masts into Wave base masts??

I had to look real hard at the data for that little spot on the images. I've witnessed a NWS radar warning coordinator in action and they are very, very busy issuing watches and warnings for a large area. Something this weak and embedded would easily be missed. I can't speak for the servicing NWS office. Contact the class about your other question!
